2018: A Year In Food

In 2018, my gym coach assigned me to keep a food blog so he could track my meals. Through developing healthy eating habits to satisfy all of my nutritional needs and a rigorous exercise programme, I lost the 21 kg between January-August 2018 I'd gained on anti-depressants.

I wanted it to be somewhere more private rather than being shoved down people's throats (literally) through Instagram/WhatsApp. Hence I've posted my culinary creations here.

Being vegetarian and/or vegan always presents a challenge in terms of hitting the protein target so this was particularly the most interesting challenge for me.

I made a conscious decision to stop food blogging in 2019 (due to time restraints), but it's useful to have a year's diet documented as a reference and a source of inspiration!

My gym manager has reviewed my exercise and food diary and added some notes.

In summary:
  • Breakfast: Can we get some protein in here?
  • Some main meals: Again can we find a suitable protein source?
  • Alcohol: 1740 calories intake this week from alcohol, over 1 days food intake in itself, can we cut this down at all?
78kg (+1.5 from 2 weeks ago)
Apparently that’s normal in the 1st 2 weeks, and means I’ve probably put on some muscle

Work on breakfast this week
Mon-Thu - oats with protein powder
Fri-Sun - 4 eggs on toast

Drinking - only allowed 1 day per week please

Fine to email Trevor regarding specific stations, or ask him in the gym
Chickpea recipe - ask him to send me that

Time my rests
That way we’re reducing the amount of variables
If I have the tendency to rush through them then I’m doing the work, but fatiguing more quickly, and therefore doing less reps than I should be

Also if I reach the allotted number of sets / reps, go up straightaway next time
It’s better to do less reps and work it up until I can complete all reps
So as soon as I hit 5x10 or 10x10, go up straight away
